Challenge

The Gedgrave Estate covers a few thousand acres of Suffolk, on the most beautiful stretch of the east coast around Orford; and another few thousand of Inverness-shire, in craggy sporting country. The estate's range of activities provided the challenge: how can one website integrate such a geographical separation and commercial activities ranging from house rents to fishing to potato farming? It was also essential for us to provide the estate with an attractive identity which, whilst bringing them up to date, did not disenfranchise any sector of their audience.

Process

The process of design was a gift, with the big skies and beautiful landscapes of both areas providing us with our key to a stunningly fresh, simple design. Thanks to the Flexisite CMS software, we are able to expand or contract the website with one click of a button - turning off whole menu areas if need be - so we created a full architecture to cover all their activities, which would be easily navigable and fully informative for users. We then spent a great deal of time with our client helping them to gather images, text and even Victorian floorplans for the website.

Result

The result is a good looking website which gathers a massive amount of information together clearly and in an easily navigable form. The client can update availability, add and remove rental houses, change photographs and in many other ways ensure that the site is kept up to date: meaning that it has become, not just a brochure, but also a simple, effective business management tool.
